VIXX LR's Beautiful Liar Review

Damn it Leo stop making me more bi than I already am...
Yet another criminally under-appreciated song to go into the K-Pop archive. Sigh...

I don't believe I've ever talked about this but there are a lot of ignored masterpieces in the world of K-Pop, I will be posting something about it eventually but for now I just want to talk about this briefly.

Songs like "Beautiful Liar", "Ain't Nobody", "Without You", "Video Game", etc. Will never get the recognition they deserve, simply due to the fact that the majority of people in this world do not listen to mainstream music for substance and, meaning, this is one of the things that I struggle to both understand and live with as a musician myself.

Sure people will complain about these songs not getting the recognition they deserve but I always found it a moot point and even contradictory to the purpose of those songs.

Musically, a song's popularity is determined by how good it is at pleasing all forms of ears (or at least more), the more familiar the sound, the better.

When a song is unique or conveys more depth and emotion than the more popular songs, some people are alienated from it naturally as they will not understand it... For example, how many of y'all completely ridiculed Eleven by Hitchhiker?

... Exactly.

These songs aren't for mass consumption, but rather to inspire and/or try something new... There are rare exceptions being "One in a Million" by Neyo or "The Earth Song" by Michael Jackson, heck even in the K-Pop world... "Wrong Number" by DBSK sold pretty darn well.

But they are rare. We need to remember this.

Anyway digressing from the gripes of a musician in tomorrow's world, this song is absolutely fantastic, and the video is even better.

If I were to come up with two words to describe this entire concept, beautifully dark. Which is different to VIXX's usual stuff which usually takes the dark feel in a more dramatic way.

The contrast between the dark clothes Leo wears and Ravi being well... Ravi is utilized really well here, they really show off their Red Oni, Blue Oni aspects of their personae here, the characters add a lot of depth to an already emotional video and song...

Speaking of which, the song bangs! What would you even call this, Piano Trap? Whatever it is, it's working!

This is definitely one of the stronger releases of 2015 which is why it will also be severely under-appreciated as well... Sigh.
